Photographs | Interviews | Quotations | Statements is a book I compiled for research on the heroin and crack cocaine scene in Aberdeen City during November 2007 to April 2008. It is a collection from my photography and primary research I gathered from the streets during that time.
The information was generated from interviewing various individuals that had been kind enough to give me their time and honesty. I interviewed a range of people including heroin/crack users and law-and-order individuals. The project required a lot of energy, but getting the information myself allowed me look at the situation more directly than any other sources could provide. It also enabled me to refine and reinforce the basis needed for my ABDN RUN project.
The book is designed to engage the reader steadily in a visual and informative way. Photography is used to build a visual portrait of Aberdeen City, and its inhabitants. They are ordered to oscillate and move deeper within the interview information and quotations. Both forms fuse to describe and document the current heroin and crack cocaine scene. Both also deliver an insight from the trafficking and supply, to the fierce addictive nature of both substances. The Interviews, quotations and statements were transcribed from audio recordings. This information is expressed in a simple interview format and simple use of colour is used to distinguish between each interviewee.
Book Synopsis
Photographs | Interviews | Quotations | Statements is my resource of compiled primary research material that has been the foundation of my heroin and crack cocaine awareness project for my final year study at Robert Gordon University. It has been a major tool that has enabled me to refine and reinforce the concepts for my final design project, and it visually and informatively clarifies the problems, that oscillate between the culture and the structured life in my local community.
